One night (probably around 1 or 2am), I was sitting on my bed, just a few feet from my bedroom door. I was just browsing the internet on my laptop, just minding my own business. In retrospect, I can remember myself going into a strange state. It was almost dream-like, but it seemed too real to be a dream. I usually remember waking up from bad dreams, so I am confident that that was not the case. While in this dream-like state, I remember seeing in my peripheral vision my door opening slowly. The first thing I noticed was the the door to the garage (which is right next to my bedroom door) was unlocked and open. The second thing I noticed was this old man standing right in my doorway.
He was wearing a black suit. His complexion was very pale, he had white hair, and his eyes looked as if they’ve been gouged out. His jaw looked unhinged and hanging in his skin. After a few brief moments (but what seemed like forever), thousands of wasps started flying out of his mouth and he made a weird groaning sound. Right when I saw the wasps flying out, I snapped out of it and it was all over. I was left disoriented and very confused. I remember returning to my normal midnight activities like nothing had happened. The following morning, the door to the garage was unlocked (which was very strange for my house, we always lock the doors).
When I looked out into the garage, the door from the garage to the side of the house was unlocked and wide open. I asked my family about this and they said that no one even went back there while I was asleep. The following evening, two wasps flew into my room out of nowhere. I called my dad in to kill them. He saw them, killed one and threw the dead body of the wasp outside. We never found the second wasp.

When I was about 8, one of the girls in my group wanted to play Bloody Mary and couldn't get any of the other girls in our group to play with her. I kind of had an attitude of 'oh shit you guys are wusses' in the first place, so I went to the girls' bathroom to play with her. We did it as instructed and turned on the light only to find ourselves covered in blood in the mirror. I'm pretty skeptical when it comes to this kind of thing, but I couldn't ignore that, nor have I forgotten it
La Llorona (“The Weeping Woman”) is a widespread legend in Mexico, the American Southwest, Puerto Rico and Central America. Although several variations exist, the basic story tells of a beautiful woman by the name of Maria killing her children by drowning them, in order to be with the man that she loved. When the man rejects her, she kills herself. Challenged at the gates of heaven as to the whereabouts of her children, she is not permitted to enter the afterlife until she has found them. Maria is forced to wander the Earth for all eternity, searching in vain for her drowned offspring, with her constant weeping giving her the name “La Llorona”.
Late in the evening of November 15, two young married couples had a very strange encounter as they drove past an abandoned TNT plant near Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The couples spotted two large eyes that were attached to something that was “shaped like a man, but bigger, maybe six or seven feet tall. And it had big wings folded against its back”. When the creature moved toward the plant door, the couples panicked and sped away. Moments later, they saw the same creature on a hillside near the road. It spread its wings and rose into the air, following with their car, which by now was traveling at over 100 miles per hour. “That bird kept right up with us,” said one of the group. They told Deputy Sheriff Millard Halstead that it followed them down Highway 62 and right to the Point Pleasant city limits. And they would not be the only ones to report the creature that night. Another group of four witnesses claimed to see the “bird” three different times.
As a whole, my entire household has silently agreed with each other that our house is haunted. On several occasions (dating all the way back too the late 60s) each family member has encountered at least one questionable paranormal experience in my house. There are many frightening encounters I could tell you myself, but just thinking about them gives me the shivers. Instead, I’ll tell you one my mom told me a couple of years ago.
My mom and dad are divorced. Because they are divorced, my sister and I have been visiting my dad every other week since I was about 5 years old. On one weekend when I was at my dad’s, my mom was asleep in her room at our house. It was the middle of the night around 2am or so when she had woken up from a sudden freezing draft. She told me that when she had woken up she had heard quiet breathing, so she had turned in the direction of my bed (to the right of her’s). Faintly visible but standing in the dim light of the window was a little girl about my height at the time with 2 braids in her hair. (When I was younger, wearing two long braids in my hair was my trademark.) It was still dark though, and all she could see was the dark silhouette of the girl. My mom just assumed it was me waking her up, so when she said “Get back to sleep” with a very adamant voice, it surprised herself. The girl didn’t say anything, but instead (and I quote) “fell silently to the ground like ashes”. Dazed, my mom promptly went back to sleep; however, it was the next morning when my mom realized that my sister and I were at our dad’s that weekend. The whole memory still creeps her out today.

do you believe in god if you believe in ghosts? do you think they should go hand in hand due to heaven, hell, purgatory etc? or do you think there is a way in which you dont have to believe in a god as suchh xx

The Tormenting Spirit of America’s best-known Poltergiest case.
ADAMS, TENNESSEE, in 1817 was the site of one of the most well-known hauntings in American history - so well known that it eventually caught the attention and then the involvement of a future president of the United States.
Are into serial killers? I know this is not really a topic on your blog but I find reading about them very interesting. If you have to pick a favourite serial killer, who would it be?
i do read about them but not often. i mean, i find them interesting too! i like to read about them for their madness and what would bring a human being to do such a thing but i would never idolize one nor do i have a favourite. they’re all the same to me, just cold blooded killers. (-:
In 1937 the Naden Harbour whaling station in the Queen Charlotte Islands was abuzz with the news that some flensers had discovered a strange animal in the stomach of a recently harvested whale. The creature was about ten feet long and had odd characteristics such as a camel-like head, a long elongated body of serpentine proportions and curiously shaped fins (above) and tail.
This didn’t happen to me, but my best friend and neighbour. I’ve had some weird experiences in my house, so I believe her when she says her house is haunted too.
She is the last of her siblings to be at home with her parents, but last winter her brother came to stay for a few days. She let him sleep in her room, and she slept on an air mattress in the living room. One night they were up late watching tv, and her brother left for her room to go to bed. She laid down on the air mattress, and put in her headphones. Only a few minutes later she heard the door that leads to the garage close. She sat up and called out for her brother, assuming he went out to the garage.
She has a split level house, so the living room she was sleeping in is more sunken into the ground than her kitchen. She had a perfect view of the kitchen, from below. As she was looking for her brother, she saw a man walk the length of her kitchen, towards the outside wall and disappear. She said he was extremely tall, dark and shadowy (like, no distinguishable features) walked sort of slowly, and had a huge stride. He cleared the width of the staircase in one step. Since she had been looking for her brother, she watched the shadow walk the entire time. She jumped up, assuming a burglar came in through the garage, but after she turned on all the lights and looked everywhere, there was no one to be found. She went upstairs and asked her brother if he went out to the garage and was in the kitchen, and he said no, but that he had heard the door close too and assumed it was her who had gone out.
The next day she was telling her mom what had happened, and her mom said that the same thing had happened to her a few years ago. She was upstairs in the office when she heard the garage door close and some papers rustling. She assumed it was her husband, as he was due to be home, and called out a greeting to him. After no reply, she walked down the hall and looked down into the kitchen, to see a tall shadow walk lengthwise across the kitchen, exactly the same as my friend had seen. Her mom was so scared that she called her husband and waited outside for him to come home.
She texted me right after it happened, terrified, and she knew that I had had some weird things happen in my house next door (mysterious foot steps, things being moved/knocked over, doors closing, seeing detailed people in the corner of my eye, always feeling watched, etc) but nothing ever like this. It’s the creepiest story I know that really happened.

I’ve always been curious of the phenomena called sleep paralysis, My boyfriend, best friend, and a cousin of mine have all experienced it. Both the scientific, and the paranormal explanations for it fascinate me. But I never ever expected it to happen to myself, as it is quite rare.
Here is a little background information on the story I’m about to tell. My mom, my brother, and I moved into an apartment in the Spring of 2005. We lived there for about five years, and over the course of that time we all had a lot of weird experiences that couldn’t be explained, such as footsteps, shadow figures, uncomfortable presences, cold spots, objects moving, doorknobs rattling, and other little things here and there. A couple weeks after we moved in I made friends with the neighborhood kids and they told me that they had been friends with the kid that lived there before me and that he was killed in a car crash and his parents ended up moving out of state. I didn’t think anything of it at first, because kids lie and like to make up stories to freak their friends out. But after living in that apartment for so long, it was hard not to believe that there was something else in there with you. In December of 2010, my mom and I moved into the house that her boyfriend had built about 10 years ago. So we thought that we wouldn’t have to worry about whatever seemed to be haunting our old apartment bothering us anymore. Unfortunately though, we were wrong.
The Photo above was taken by Bank manager Peter MacNab. He snapped a photo of something large moving through the water of the loch near Urquhart Castle in July 195
The Loch Ness monster, or Nessie, is undoubtedly the most well-known of these aquatic mysteries. But other deep, cold lakes around the world have their own legendary beasts: Chessie in Chesapeake Bay, Storsie in Sweden’s Lake Storsjön, Selma in Norway’s Lake Seljordsvatnet and “Champ” in New York’s Lake Champlain among others.
At the time I was living with my step dad and mom in an apartment. I just had my first daughter she was taking a nap and my parents had left to the store. I was sitting in my glider(baby rocking chair thingy) watching tv low so I wouldn’t wake the baby. As I was watching tv, I saw something/somebody standing in the hall way/doorway of my room in the corner of my eye. I looked over and there standing solid has can be, a headless man..i froze, I didn’t know what to do or say. I remember it so clear.
The clothes he was wearing, the blood on it..but I remember I couldn’t see his hands. I saw his arms/legs to his feet. Wearing a plaid red/blue shirt with blue jeans. It felt like I was frozen just staring at him for awhile. Then it just disappeared. I got up and I walked the place..to make sure there wasn’t anything else. When my parents got home it took me awhile to tell them what I saw. My mother doesn’t like hearing anything I have to say about ghost but step dad on the other hand, he believes because he has seen a lot of ghosts/spirits in his days.
I told him what I saw and as I was telling him the story and going into detail, it looked like all the color went from his face & then I remembered; he had a brother that died in a airplane crash a few years earlier. When they came to the crash site there was nothing. his body was destroyed. So sad. But they did find his head(so gruesome I know sorry). So right away he thought it might be him. When I described what he was wearing. He said “yeah that sounds like something bob(my uncle) would wear. “ I’m not hundred percent sure that it was him, but it sure scared the crap out of me.

I'm off work today, so I'm just sitting at home, reading through your archives. I live in an apartment building with several small children on my floor. A couple of them like to try opening all the doors they can find, so I usually keep mine locked so I don't get random children wandering in. I was just in the middle of a particularly creepy story, when I heard one of them turn my door knob. I've never jumped off the couch so fast before! Keep up the good work of scaring the crap out of us! :)
Before you had written about a movie called "Megan is missing". I went, despite my better judgment and watched it. I am not sure how a movie like this could have been green lighted to be made. I understand it is based on true events and all but I feel that it shouldn't have been made or at least could have had more class to it. I just don't approve of any movies having to do with rape.
yes, i agree with you!
i remember getting hated on for not liking this movie as the stupidest of people really did shocked me.
Hello there Slendy! I really really love your blog but have never been kept up at night because of it, probably because I've never experienced any sort of haunting or the like. Anyway, my family is in the process of moving and we've been looking at houses... So here's my question: is there a way to know if the house is haunted before you move into it?
do you ever reckon that maybe aliens or something have arrived on earth but our eyes aren't advanced enough to see them or something? Or that they're invisible and maybe some events that we assume occurred because of ghosts, was actually an alien??? This keeps me up at night.
haha this reminds me of that episode in doctor who for some reason
This Video appears to have been made by a kid who was documenting his house for his own kid reasons. Then, unexpectedly, a shadow person seems to cross the scene. This scares the kid and the video ends. It’s interesting in that the shadow form maintains its size and shape as it crosses the field of view. If it were a real shadow, its size and shape would have changed as it receded against the objects in the background of the open doorway.
Okay well I’m still living in this house, I have been for almost 3 years. When my parents and I first moved into this house it was really sunny and happy. But it hasn’t been for too long. I have always felt this presence in this house. Never ever have I felt alone. Ever. I told my mom but she just said it was my imagination. One day the water wasent working well so I went down to the basement. I turned on the light but it didn’t work so I just kept the door open so I could see dimly. I felt my way to the water thing and turned it to the right. Somebody turned it to the left. As I was walking out, I heard a sound. Like a shovel hitting the concrete. I got a shiver down my spine and climbed out of the basement. I told my parents and they finally decided to tell me the truth. Before we moved in here an old man and his wife lived here. The man was in the war and had some problems when he came home. His wife wanted him to get help but he was reluctant. He started digging out the basement. He didn’t want help either. Every morning he would go down with his shovel and dig it out. He never said why either. When he finished digging it out, his wife diasapeared. He killed her and buried her in the basement. He then killed himself. He hung himself in my closet. Late at night the beads in Front of my closet will move and outline a person but nobody is there.

Some teenagers think it’s fun or cool to go traipsing around disrespectfully in cemeteries on Halloween. If you’ve considered such an outing, consider too that you might be disturbing those who rest there and something might even follow you home.
A 17-year-old Scottish girl made that mistake. It wasn’t Halloween, but the Spring of 1978 when a girl, identified only as Miss A by the Society of Psychical Research, and several of her friends decided to make their way through a local graveyard, trampling graves as they laughed and joked. Only Miss A and her family was to pay the price for that prank, however. Several nights later, Miss A awoke to see the apparition of an old woman sitting in a chair near her bed. The spirit was not transparent, and Miss A did not sense any harm from it. In the morning, she wrote off the experience as a weird dream.
But it wasn’t. For several weeks following, Miss A repeatedly saw the ghost of the old woman - sometimes in broad daylight. It would follow Miss A from room to room, hovering less than a foot above the floor. At times it watched Miss A’s every move, following her, and would freeze in place whenever she turned to confront it. And soon the encounters became more threatening.
While making tea one day, she felt an unseen force grab the tea kettle - filled with boiling water - and twist it in her hands. Miss A felt that the entity was trying to scald her. Finally, Miss A told her mother of these bizarre experiences. Mrs. A was skeptical at first - until she too saw the old woman drift across the downstairs hall and disappear into a room. The entity continued to make its presence felt. On one occasion it wrenched the vacuum cleaner from Mrs. A’s hands. It would sometimes push or pull against doors that family members were trying to open or close. Miss A’s father - the most diehard Skeptics of the group - was even forced to believe when loud rapping noises awakened the entire household, and later when he could not explain water incessantly dripping from the kitchen ceiling. A plumber could find no leak.
The poltergeist activity escalated. Loud banging, unexplained snoring sounds, objects moved about. Then, it seemed, the entity attempted to make its identity known. Miss A was sitting with her father one day when she suddenly fell into a trance. She began to speak of another life - as the daughter of a French doctor in the 1800s. After this incident, Miss A’s behavior changed noticeably and she appeared to be endowed with unexplained psychic powers: she could bend the tines of a fork just by brushing them with her fingers. Doctors and other investigators could find no rational explanation for what was happening to the A family. But they could endure no more. Miss A and her family moved out of their home of 11 years.
But the ghost was to give Miss A one last life-threatening scare. Out of a nagging curiosity, Miss A returned to the empty house one day. She found the back door broken and open. She went in. She picked up the telephone to see if it was working. Suddenly, something grabbed her by the throat. Icy, unseen fingers had grabbed Miss A by the neck and were choking her. Terrified, she managed to pull herself away and ran out the front door. Needless to say, she never returned.
This might not be very scary just head-ups. My house has always had weird things going on like doors closing with no wind and I can sometimes feel something pulling on my hair when I'm alone. But one night I fell asleep in my room with the lights on and dreamt that a German Sheppard dog was watching me sleep. I woke up and was going to go to my mums room (because I'm a scaredy cat) and I saw the shadow of a dog go down my hallway. It still freaks me out. love the blog btw!
This isn’t very scary, the ghosts haven’t done anything necessarily bad (at least yet), but they are pretty powerful presences.
I used to attend a performing arts high school. We had several theatres, some being built way back before even the ’50s. Only one was haunted, though, or at least to the point of this one.
Students have claimed to see both an elderly man and a skinny little boy. Music has played over the sound system when nobody was in the booth, and there’s a chair that always moves up to where the lights hang. It’s found on the ground the next day. One of my friends says he even heard a voice tell him to run a certain track when he was in the sound booth, but he got yelled at for playing it. Nobody had asked him to, apparently.
One day my dance class was doing some quick rehearsals in the theatre, and there was a mannequin backstage. It was near the closet door, which was wide open. There was a chair on the floor.
After we ran through the dance once to test the lighting, I ended up on stage right, where I was before. The mannequin had its arm raised, like it was waving. It hadn’t before. The chair was gone, and the closet door was cracked. A little boy peeked his head out, pressed a finger to his lips, then pulled the door shut behind him.
When we ran through the dance again, I noticed the chair was up in the rafters above the lights. I told everyone in the class and some were freaked out, while others laughed it off. Two girls left after I shared the story though, they were too creeped out when they saw the chair above the lights.

Do you believe ghosts go if you tell them to go? It has always worked for me, just firmly or clearly tell that you don't want them around anymore, that they're scaring you or bothering you, that they have to leave you alone. I do question this about a bad spirit though, this will probably not work then.
yeah i agree. you get bad and good ghosts like you do with bad and good people.
some people will go if you tell them to go away, others won’t.
i do believe in this, i’ve heard a lot of cases when someone tells a spirit to ‘leave’ and they do usually go.
but in other cases i’ve heard when someone talks to a spirit the spiritual activity becomes worst.
Wow, whenever I open up this blog, I get this strong feeling that I really want to be your friend. Like, in real life friend. I think you're pretty awesome. I don't know what it is. Just had to share it, it's been bugging me for days.
