In Denmark, ghosts that had been exorcised-forced down into the earth and pinned in place with a stake driven through the heart-did not rest easily. They lay in the dark, waiting for a chance to escape, and for that reason, people who ventured into lonely fields and meadows were warned not to disturb unmarked posts. Too often, those who touched the wood heard an eager, muffled voice demanding freedom from the post that held it down. “You pull,” the voice would whisper, “and I will push.”
The Myrtles Plantation is a beautiful antebellum plantation located in St. Francisville, Louisiana. Built sometime between 1794-1796 (sources conflict) by General David Bradford, the plantation was originally called Laurel Grove and is considered a very haunted place to visit.
One of the experiences we had in my old apartment was with this stuffed rabbit that my grandmother had given my mom back when she was a kid. My grandmother has been bed-ridden from Alzheimers since 2002, she isn’t able to speak anymore, so anything she gave to my mom is extremely important to her and she likes to display them out in the open.
At this point it was just my mom and I living in the apartment, my brother had moved out with his girlfriend a couple months before this started happening. Anyways, when we first moved in my mom had put the rabbit on top of the VCR we had at the time so that it was facing you when you sat on the couch and watched television. It had been there for the two years that we had been living in the apartment before this happened. Over the course of a couple weeks we started noticing that the rabbit was actually being turned around to face the wall behind it while we weren’t in the room, and anytime you moved it back facing the couch, the next day when you woke up it would be facing the wall. At first we just attributed it to vibrations caused by walking around and whatnot, but after it started doing it on almost a daily basis, it became obvious that it was not being caused by the two of us walking around. This went on for probably about a month altogether, and then it just stopped. We went a couple of weeks without it being turned around, so we just kind of shrugged it off and went on with our lives. My mom is a huge skeptic, so she had a list of explanations for it, none of them really made any logical sense though. Then one day we went grocery shopping, we were gone for maybe an hour to an hour and a half. We got back home and as we were bringing the groceries in, we saw that the rabbit had been moved and was now facing the front door. It was one of the most nerve racking experiences of my entire life, walking into your house and seeing something that shouldn’t be there staring at you, it was just really unsettling. The next day I went into the living room and noticed that the rabbit was gone and when I questioned my mom about it all she said was “It doesn’t fit the decoration of the room.” And that was it. It’s been 5 years and I haven’t seen that rabbit since.
Ok, so, I actually have a fairly interesting true story.
When I was little we lived on a farm and this is when things started happening, but my memory is a little fuzzy about some stuff because I was small so I’ll tell you what I remember of that…at night we used to be in our beds and hear footsteps like someone was walking around our kitchen and dining area in steel toe boots, and on more than one occasion my family saw unexplained things, but the thing that sticks out most in my memory was when my mom and I were alone in the house once and she was in the bathroom and I was 3 rooms away and heard her call me…well, we ran into each other half way and at the both time said,”What do you need?” apparently we both heard each other call for the other at the same time, but neither of us had said a word.
The house was just in general creepy…if you were trying to go to sleep at night you’d feel watched or even suffocated.
We moved when I was 12 and moved a few states away and things stayed quiet, but when I turned 15 things started happening again.
This isn’t scary at all, but every year during summer time for about 5 years, my mother and I would look after her friends dogs when she went on holiday, we used to take them down to a stream where they’d play for a little while. Unfortunately both her dogs were put down last year, but whenever she goes on holiday now, there is always a smell of wet dog that lingers through my house the entire time she’s away, though I have no pet dog and squeaking noises, from their favourite play toy they had~

Its not really scary, nor supposed to be, but whatever.
To understand a certain bit, you need to know I am diabetic, and if my blood sugars go to low I will start dying.
I go to sleep with my door shut, and I’m a light sleeper and wake up if someone opens it, but only if someone opens it. I was sleeping, after going to sleep with a lower than usual nuber, at a five. I thought I’d be fine, but I stayed up a bit later, so I was probably on a four when I went to sleep.(four is when I start dying)
After a little while of sleeping, I woke up with a figure that looked sort of like my brother standing over me, telling me to get up. I asked if there was a problem, and my blood test kit hit my in the face. The figure simply said, “Test.”
I did a blood test, and asked if it could turn on the light, it told me there was a light on the side of the test kit. I found out I was a 2.6, which is very low. My dextros (sugar) hit me in the face and in my disorintated state, I found it hard to open, so I asked for help. Suddenly it wasn’t there. After a couple of seconds, I fixed the low blood sugars, and in the more concious state, I realised something.
My door had never opened. Whatever was in my room saved my life.

I’ve experience this myself when I went to the Fringe festival.
George MacKenzie was in charge of the Prison in the 17th Century and - working for King Charles II - persecuted the Scots Presbyterians known as Covenanters.
MacKenzie was also local Advocate and became infamous for the glee with which he would sentence the Convenanters to swing on the gallows. He was most definitely a “hanging judge” and gained the nickname “bloody” George Mackenzie.
MacKenzie’s tomb is near the site of the prison, however this is not where the poltergeist activity takes place. It seems that the ghostly judge prefers to haunt the last resting place of his victims within the prison.
The area has - like much of Edinburgh - been the site of much paranormal activity and ghost sightings over the centuries. However the poltergeist only really became active after an incident in 1998 when a “tired and emotional” local homeless man opened and desecrated the sealed MacKenzie tomb.
Since then the MacKenzie poltergeist appears to have been on a rampage and there have been numerous reports of tourists and visitors to the Covenantor’s Prison being set upon by an unfriendly entity.
Like many other poltergeists, Mackenzie has its victims. But unlike many other poltergeists, Mackenzie’s victims rise over hundreds. There is a book published on the entity - The Ghost Who Haunted Itself.
I bought and read it when I went to Edinburgh last year. It certainly is a scare, and now you can embark on a tour. The tomb of Mackenzie certainly is spooky and gives off a horrible a vibe - if you look it too long, it feels like something looks back and makes you look away. I’m visiting again next year, I will embark on the tour, and hopefully tell you more about it!
I don’t really know if this is true but, one day when my sister and I were visiting our relatives down in Houston, my Tia Mary and Tia Anita went swimming late at night, so my Tia Mary started to tell us scary stories, she told us how when she was just a little girl she woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom (my grandma lives in a two story house, so my Tia had to go downstairs to use the bathroom, and this house was very old) when she got into the bathroom, (also there was a lump directly under the floor, she told me it was a well) she was using the toilet when the door handle started to jiggle suddenly, she sat there freaked out, she didn’t know what to do but to scream for her mom, when my grandma finally came to see what she was screaming about, she told her mom what happened and her mom replied saying that she didn’t see anyone out there.

I have surprisingly vivid memories of my early childhood. One of these memories has remained in my mind with such clarity because it is so haunting. I used to sleep in bed with my parents, and every single evening a dark, humanoid shape would appear and lean over me. It seemed to be the shape of a youthful male crossing from adolescence into teenhood. The thing had tufts of slightly curly hair. It had a lean body that appeared to still be in the process of developing into a more masculine, mature shape. It appeared to me every night. And that was all that it would do. I would open my eyes and there it would be, right above me. The thing had no breath or warmth, it was a gray dream specter that spookily formed out of midnight shadow. I believe this occurred for about a year, although the fog of my early life prevents me from exacting a specific interval of time. I was too young to realize that this was unusual, so I simply accepted it. Eventually I must have begun to feel troubled by the figure, because I resolved to be rid of it. Every night, for about three nights, I would mentally chant, “I don’t want you here, you aren’t welcome here, go away.” And during those three successive nights, I watched it waste away to nothing. It lost its hair on the first night, I believe, and on the second it thinned, on the third it was but a sliver in the dark. I am still not entirely certain where I stand on issues of the supernatural, and I am perfectly willing to attribute my experience to dreams or other psychological phenomenon, but it is strange happenings like these that have opened my mind to the possibility that there is, indeed, something beyond the familiar and physical realm.

So this happened just two or three days before Halloween this year (2011). But I was at a friends Halloween party and we decided to go to a park and hang out there for a little. Well while we were there a few of my friends brought up this house on Wheeler street, about how it was all burnt down now and no one ever goes there. Well they said they wanted to go and asked if anyone else wanted to go with them; I thought about it but then I was like I rather stay here and not freak myself out. So they left and we stayed at the park, but it eventually it got cold and we went back to the house and waited for them to come back.
My friend Jake then recieved a call from them that when they got there some freaky things started to happen and now Zach’s car isn’t working right. So when they got back they told ud what happened. See two of them stayed in the car while the other two went up to the house with a flashlight; the two in the car we talking and stuff until they saw a shadowly figure crawling and running around the car they were in and getting close to the doors that they were near and while that happened to them the two checking out the burnt remained freaked out because they saw a figure infront of them and slowly coming towards them. Then then ran for the car and drove away and a few miles away Zachs car started to have the problem.
Since I lived on Wheeler Street for a while I googled and searched for this house until I found it and I was surprised because I never heard of this house on the country bound Wheeler street that I used to live on; but what happened there was creepy. The father of the family starved his son to death in the basement, killed his two daughters and shot or stabbed his wife to death before taking his own life. The house was then burnt down later by other people. So in the morning me and three other people when to the house and found a creepy looking skull in the basement and a red mask sitting in the middle of what used to be a living room.
Later I went on Halloween night after trick or treating, and I couldn’t shake the feeling I was being watched and followed so I held tight unto both of my friends I was with while taking pictures of everything. Nothing showed up on the photos.
Fuck Yeah Nightmares Mod Fey: too bad none of the photos showed up! 7/10 for scares and thanks for sharing!
heyo~ Mod Fey here. You’ve seen me around a bit but I haven’t shared my family ghost story yet, so while I’m waiting to get to the bottom of your submissions in the inbox (there are a LOT, so thank you very much not just for sharing your stories, but for your patience with us getting through them!) I decided it’s time to share!
My grandparents had an old house in Shaler Township, PA (It’s a bit North of Pittsburgh.) It was built very close to the hillside, only a two-foot gap (at best!) existed between it and the hill. It was very old (for the US at least, haha), even though it was well-kept, the windows were the thick wavy glass that older buildings have. There was a large porch with a crawlspace under it, an upstairs floor with very few windows, and a large basement painted gray everywhere (even the floor). But the room I remember the most vividly was the hallway with dark doors leading to the bar, bedroom and closet on one side, and the other side had openings into the kitchen and living room.
On Tuesday Sept. 23 2014 while my family and I were out at my grandfather’s funeral(who was a very repectable funeral home owner of our community) someone broke in to our family museum and stole all of his turn of the century embalming…
The Melon Heads are legendary beings that live in and around parts of Michigan, Ohio, and Connecticut. They’re described as small humanoid figures with bulbous heads that come out at night to attack people. There are a couple of different origins as to where they came from which we will explore today.
There are two known species of cookiecutter sharks: the cookiecutter shark (Isistius brasiliensis) and the largetooth cookiecutter shark (Isistius plutodus). Both are about the same size—reaching lengths of around 50 cm—and both belong to a family of deep water squaloid (Squaliformes—the dogfish sharks) sharks: Dalatiidae (the sleeper sharks belong to this family as well). The two Isistius species are epi- to mesopelagic creatures; it is thought that during the day they remain in the mesopelagic zone (from 200 m to 1000 m below sea level) and then at night they venture nearer to the surface. This behaviour is known as diel (influenced by day-night changes) vertical migration, and many other mesopelagic creatures, from fishes to shrimps, perform this behaviour.

A few years back we got flooded so moved to my mums old boyfriends farm. techniccally it was his sisters but he owned a plot of land and lived on it in a caravan so we stayed their all winter through to summer until the house got re-carpeted. the farm was over 400 years old. it had the main drive, a long stretch or tarmac about 40 metres long and 18 metres wide, there was always 5 cars and a massive horse transporter on the drive, his sister also had a catterry on site and that was hidden behing some trees, there was the main farm house which was huge and covered in ivy. it was split into 2 houses, his sisters and his niece’s house. his sisters was the older house, nis niece’s house was about 100 years old (an extension) there was a large stable block round the back with a riding center, and two medium paddocks and one huge one at the back (where i once had a horrible expierience of almost being trampled saving my cousin from an angry horse). but anyway.
Do you accept true accounts of alien encounters? Or do you only do ghosts and stuff?
People do submit Alien encounters and UFO sightings to the blog. Most of the submits are indeed ghosts but I take any of the following that is listed on the submit rule page which is on the side of the blog. (Heres the link.)
It’s not much of a scare but a friend and I used to play around with the Ouija board when we were younger. We thought it was cool to do something like that because it was forbidden. For weeks we would play with it and talk to the spirits who were around. They’d give advice, tell us how they died, or just spell out random words. I really don’t remember all the details of it now. Not that it mattered.
Oh great, the one time I choose to view this blog while home alone, and I just felt something brush against my cheek, like someone’s hand caressing it, and saw a shadow on the wall in my hallway mirror. My apartment is very old compared to most in my town, about 30 years, and I’ve always felt iffy about one of the rooms. I live here with my boyfriend and another friend, there are three rooms total so one is unused. I keep it closed because it just feels… wrong. And the shadow that passed my mirror was headed to that goddamn room. FYI, I’m absolutely terrified right now.

Not really a scary story, but my mom used to see her grandfather for years after he passed. One day, she was leaving her room, opened the door, and he was there. She screamed, mostly because she wasn’t expecting anyone to be there and said, “Don’t DO that!” and he looked sad and faded away. She said, “No no! Just announce a little better!” He showed up again, but thought it was an interesting story you’d like. :)

I’ve always believed in the paranormal—but i’ve never had much of a profound experience—however—i have had small occurrences happen to me that keep be from becoming a skeptic (i am a very practical person), my first experience was when i was around 15 or 16 at a family friends house when i was watching TV, nothing scary at all, in fact it was a cute pet show on animal planet, but i happened to look up at an angel statue sitting on the entertainment system where a blue orb sort of ‘faded’ into existence and hovered around the figure for at least five minutes before it dissapeared from view, i really wasn’t frightened by it, i was very calm, and i made sure to look for anything that could be reflecting this odd, perfectly round, blue orb, the blinds were closed on the tv and no one seemed to see it but me though there were two adults in the room at the same time—i always think back to this and wondered what this weird phenomenon could possibly be.
i know someone and once, when she was around 11, she got really ill more than she had been ill in her life before, she’d caught some bug or flu or something but it was quite serious. she went to sleep and had a dream about a ball of newspaper and a lake of orange paint. after that she woke up, but she was hallucinating - her eyes were open and she was walking around but she could not see her surroundings as what they actually were. she sat herself down and saw that she was in a lifeboat and she was dragging people out of the sea, whilst watching dead bodies float by, people all around her were screaming and crying. in reality, her parents said she was sat down grabbing the air thinking there were people there, but she was extremely distressed and scared, crying her eyes out and screaming. eventually she got better and it stopped. she didn’t get that ill again until she was about 14, she went to sleep and had the same weird dream about the orange paint again for the first time since. and then she started hallucinating again. her room was shaking and tilting and rocks from a massive iceberg crashed through her window, she was seeing these things so vividly, her parents found her screaming again. she had never seen titanic, but i suggested these were maybe some form of repressed memories. we looked on the internet for titanic survivors and discovered that one, a girl who escaped off the boat and had helped drag people out of the sea into lifeboats, was 13/14, the same age my friendwas when she had these hallucinations, had died almost exactly 9 months before she was born…

When I was about 7 or 8 my best friend and I had a sleepover at her house. She had a clown doll that we really hated that was standing downstairs in the livingroom. We ate lots of candy and then went to bed. After a while I woke up, terrified, because I was having a nightmare about the clown, chasing us up the stairs, to the bedroom we where sleeping in. I looked at my friend to find her staring at me, pretty shocked. We opened the bedroom door, without saying a word, and we found the doll sitting in front of her room.
Fuck Yeah Nightmares Mod Fey: oooh heeelll no. Dolls are considered ‘empty vessels’ and are considered very easy to possess. I hope that she was able to get rid of it (they’re also notorious for returning to their owners!) 9/10 for scares and thanks for sharing!
Every summer, my family and I spend some time at this club for people who work in my father’s work area. This club works in periods of ten days, and you’re assigned a random apartment or house per period. This particular event took place when I was six or seven years old. We were assigned a fairly nice apartment, with quite some space and well lit. The one problem? From the day we got in there until the end of the ten day period, I simply refused to go inside the bathroom on my own. The only way to make me go in there would be having an adult come along with me and stay there the entire time, regardless of what I was doing in there, and even so I would often cry all along. Now, I was never a very scared child, and this was particularly unusual for me, so my parents were intrigued. Eventually, after some time insisting, they finally got me to tell them what was wrong with it. The problem, you see, was the lady who stood in the corner of the shower cabin, covered in cuts and bruises, who whimpered and flinched when I came inside to take a bath.
I can’t quite remember which of the apartments that one was, but considering there aren’t many apartments in there, surely we have gone to the same one at least once more since then (as I’m twenty one years old now and we go every year), but I have never seen her again after that.
Fuck Yeah Nightmares Mod Fey: When I was very little, I refused to close doors, even when I went into the bathroom. Unlike you, I don’t remember what I was so afraid of. Let us know if you find any information about murders that may have occured there! 8/10 for scares and thanks for sharing!
My family has always had a history of being able to see ghosts and spirits and what not. Many of my ancestors were mediums and spiritual medicine woman in different indian tribes. So of course, this ability has been passed on to me, even when i was too young to know what was going on. One incident was when i was about 4 years old. I was sitting in my room playing with toys when i saw what looked like my mom beckoning at me to follow her. So I venture out into the hall where i find my mother no where to be found. I go to my mom’s room where she was getting ready for work and she asks what was wrong, and i told her “well you called me.” i later on found out that right before i had arrived with my mother, she was putting make-up on looking inthe mirror and she saw a second reflection of herslf right behind her and after 2 seconds it disappeared. So it was a ghost posing as my mother to make me come with it.

It wasn’t until know that I had something else saying that these things are sited. Everyone I told said that it could have been an eagle or a vulture but it wasn’t feathery enough and it had a huge horn on it’s head.
I had missed the bus and was in a hurry to walk a mile or so to school. I remember saying my goodbyes and hastily walking out of the door and into the street and as I was glancing down at my bag and rummaging through it I heard this ear shattering screech (it sounded just like pterodactyl in dinosaur movies). I honestly thought that it was someone watching a movie loudly and I was worried about school so I paid no mind to it. Then I heard it again but much much closer and as I looked up I thought I was dreaming. It was so huge that I was covered in it’s shadow and it was so close I could see the leathery detail. I remember its huge beak and its small clawed feet and all that went through my mind in that few seconds was “Is that a dinosaur..?” It made one more screech when it flew past me and another when it was much further away. I was frozen in place for about a minute until I was able to run off in fear.
Fuck Yeah Nightmares Mod Fey: I friggin love dinosaurs (pterosaurs aren’t considered true dinosaurs, but they are more related to modern birds than any living reptile and that’s your science fact for the day) I would have LOVED to hear that noise—most sound recordings imitating pterodactyls are actually eagles screeching, but due to their relation to birds, I can imagine what you heard to be pretty close! Of course, as awesome as this is, I’m glad you did not get carried away or anything. Here’s some more info on Kongamoto sightings for everyone. Also, 8/10 for scares and thanks for sharing!
So, I’ve never been a religious person or anything. In fact, I would call myself an atheist. Despite this, I’ve always found demonology and related themes extremely interesting. 2 years ago, I was home alone in my mom’s house and I was sitting on the living room with my laptop wasting time, as usual. From the spot where I was seating, to the right, you could perfectly see the kitchen.
Suddenly, the thought of searching for a ouija board through the internet came to my mind and it seemed so cool, I actually did it. I went to a site where they had a ouija board where you could ‘play’ online. I obviously thought it was pure bullsh*t, I mean, what can you expect? I started talking to this person, and the questions I asked and the answers he gave me didn’t match so I was laughing because my thoughts about this ‘entity’ being a bot were true.
I closed the tab a few minutes laters, after that, I was just fooling around on the internet and I noticed the light bulb on the kitchen started to flick so I turned the light off and back on, thinking it was just an electrical short, and the light went back to normal. Following this, I went back to the living room when I started to feel shivers all over my body and I sensed something coming from the kitchen, I used my peripheral view to see what was there and I saw a life-size crucified Christ on my kitchen and the lights started blinking again. I closed my laptop and ran upstairs to my mom’s room and tried to calm myself down. It was working until the lights went out. I heard dishes breaking on the kitchen afterwards. I quickly looked for my phone and called my mom crying. All these things can be perfectly explained so I just think I chose a bad day to play the Ouija. But I still can’t explain how the dishes fell from the cabinet if it was closed.
Fuck Yeah Nightmares Mod Fey: I know a lot of skeptics who still won’t touch a Ouija board, so don’t worry about that! 6/10 for scares and thanks for sharing.
Author of "Brittany", here (that feels funny to type!). I keep trying to convince myself that I must have remembered it wrong, or fell asleep and dreamed it, or imagined it, but I *know* what I saw and I can't make up.. well, making it up. I've told a few other people about what happened and everyone is just as puzzled as me! I'll come back here if anything comes up, but for now, it's just a big mystery.
Phantom cats, also known as Alien Big Cats (ABCs), are large felines, such as jaguars or cougars, which have been purported to appear in regions outside their indigenous range. Sightings, tracks and predation have been reported in a number of countries and states including Ireland, Britain, New Zealand, Australia, Finland, Denmark, Eastern United States, Hawaii and Luxembourg.
In the seventeenth century, the Scottish Woman, Anne, Lady Fanshawe was with her husband as they were visiting Lady Honora O Brien in Ireland who was daughter of the Earl of Thomond. She described her memories, published in Scotland in 1907.
I have had my fair share of shadow cat encounters, some of them were just cat-shaped black masses, and others actually took replica forms of my black cat I used to have, it creeped me out to end.
There has been sightings of ghost animals before, in many different countries and folklores. (Like the Irish creepy horse otherwise known as Pooka) as well as the large black dogs with red eyes. These sightings have been seen throughout uk and ireland (in other countries as well. they’re usually a warning of bad omen and other people believe it to be the devil, depending on your views.)
On the other hand, I do agree with shadow animals existing! There is too many eye witnesses accounts to say there is not. Though some people have reported seeing inhuman, non animal looking shadow beings as well. Or seeing a mass of black energy floating around the room. It appears that a lot of these cases that they take different forms, be that of human, animal or something else.
no-puedo-vivir-sin-ti asked: I saw your post on shadow people and wondered. I’m only asking because when I was little (5-10), I used to live in a wooded area. And sometimes I’d see what I dubbed shadowcat. I never told anyone since I was young and would only ever see him after dark -once at twilight- and chalk it up to my imagination. He hardly seemed scary to me since I’d just see him out of the corner of my eye, turn and he’d be gone. Well when I was ten we moved back to Canada and I didn’t see him for a year, didn’t think of him either. Until while walking home with my friend and saw him in broad daylight, which surprised me. But I didn’t see him again after this summer, when I saw his paw disappear into a pile of coats next to the wall at my dad’s house.
So would it be possible he’s a shadow animal?
Fuck Yeah Nightmares Mod Fey: I don’t see why that would be any different than a shadow person—we have a few stories that describe shadow animals (not as many as shadow people, though!).
a few years back, my sister visited a random psychic who lived in the same apartment building as her friend. she was sceptical at first, but then the woman said to her: “You just moved into a new house, didn’t you? And you’re doing construction.” Oddly enough, we were renovating the bathroom of our new home at the time. The house’s basement where the bathroom was, was super creepy and hadn’t been renovated since the 40’s. According to the psychic, a female spirit resided in our home. She liked to play with my mother’s red hair (my mom actually does have red hair). The psychic told her there’d be a crawlspace beneath the stairs next to the bathroom and that there she’d find a hairbrush with red hair in it. To rid the house of the spirit, she must clean out the brush and leave it in the sun for a day and then seal off the crawlspace.
During the renovations, my father and his friend found the crawlspace, but no such brush was ever found. Still creeped me out how some of her details were right on and she was a total stranger! And they did end up sealing off the crawlspace, because it gave everyone the heebiejeebies. I’m a bit of a skeptic myself. But your blog is awesome and I love the fact that you let people share stories. Don’t ever stop! :)
Fuck Yeah Nightmares Mod Fey: Interesting! 4/10 for scares and thanks for sharing!
Before I get into details, I just want to say I absolutely love this blog. Now, to the story. (It’s not exactly scary, but it is a bit of a warning of what happens when you probe the area of a spirit that has power you can’t identify.)
